The barriers at the level crossing beside Mortlake station drop several times an hour in the peaks, and the only realistic way round is a long loop by Chalkers Corner, so we give Mortlake a start time that assumes we will sit at the crossing at least once. Housing splits three ways in SW14. Victorian terraces run off Sheen Lane and White Hart Lane, smaller cottages sit behind Mortlake High Street towards Thames Bank, and there are newer flats along the river. The old Stag Brewery has stood empty since Budweiser closed it in 2015, and the £1.5bn scheme for 1,075 homes on the site finally won its appeal in May 2025, so the rental stock around Mortlake Green is going to shift again over the next few years.

Does the Boat Race affect bookings?
It does for one weekend a year. The finish sits just short of Chiswick Bridge, Thames Bank fills with spectators and the riverside roads become useless for a van. We move Mortlake jobs to the morning or to the following week, and we say so when you book rather than on the day.

Do you clean balconies on the riverside blocks?
The floor and the inside of the glass, yes. Outside faces of balcony glass above ground level are not something we do, and no honest cleaner should promise it without proper access equipment.
