Questions about riverside cleans
Where does the van park?
On Thames Road or one of the side streets off it, then we walk the kit in. Chiswick Mall’s zone runs from 9am to 5pm and the Chiswick Station area is controlled from 10am to noon, so the rules shift within a few hundred metres and we check the plate for that street rather than assuming.
Can you clean original floorboards?
We clean them. We do not sand, re-oil or wax them, and anyone promising to bring old boards back to new with a mop is selling you something. Where boards are worn through the finish we note it for the inventory.
Does the flooding cause problems for a checkout clean?
Only in timing. If a high tide is due we start upstairs and work down, and on the rare day the towpath is impassable we move the booking rather than have two cleaners standing in the water with a machine.
Do you clean cellars?
Yes, where the access is safe and the lighting works. Cellars along this row are damp by nature, so we clear cobwebs, wash the floor and leave it dry, without pretending the damp itself has gone anywhere.
